A Brief History of the Golfing Union of Ireland

The Golfing Union of Ireland was formed in October of 1891 with 28 greens designated as golfing courses throughout Ireland. The GUI even precedes the United States Golf Association (USGA) by 3 years.

The Golfing Union of Ireland was formed in order to ensure that Irish golf is held to a high standard of excellence, and so that Irish players can compete with the world's best in international competitions. The Golfing Union of Ireland oversees a Coaching Management Committee which sets up regular training and coaching sessions for boys, youths and seniors. With the help of the GUI, Ireland has become one of the premier countries exporting world class golf players today.
